Prayer for Dreamers
Topic: Work

Prayer for Dreamers

We pray for the dreamers of this life, O God,
for those persons who imagine new possibilities,
who long for what others cannot perceive,
who spin dreams of wonder and majesty in their minds.
Defend them from ridicule and harsh criticism,
from self-doubt and lack of faith in their dreams,
and from abandonment of this call to make things new.
Grant that from their dreams
may come forth blessings for humankind
to enrich the quality of life
and the wonderment of us all.
Amen.

All the Workers

All the Workers

O Lord, I remember before thee tonight all the workers of the world:
Workers with hand or brain:
Workers in cities or in the fields:
Men who go forth to toil and women who keep house:
Employers and employees: Those who command and those who obey:
Those whose work is dangerous:
Those whose work is monotonous or mean:
Those who can find no work to do:
Those whose work is in the service of the poor
Or healing the sick
Or the proclamation of the gospel of Christ
At home or in foreign places.

Doing the Work of Our Calling

That it may please thee to inspire us, in our several callings, to do the work which thou givest us to do with singleness of heart as thy servants, and for the common good, we beseech thee to hear us, good Lord.

To Manage Time Well

To Manage Time Well

Father, I'm praying for (name one or more) and others in my circle of family and friends to be good managers of time...

Help them learn from Mary and Martha that busyness can keep them from sitting at the feet of Jesus where they'll receive His teaching and enjoy His friendship. May they find the one thing that Jesus said is needed—unhurried time at His feet. Protect them from the busyness of Martha; may their lives not be driven by the urgent but by the important—and help them know the difference. May they remember that Mary chose to sit at Jesus' feet. (Luke 10:38–42)

May they make that choice, too, learning to be still before You—to cease striving, to let be, to know that You are God. Otherwise, they may find themselves working and serving in their own strength instead of Yours, feeling weary and weighed down. (Psalm 46:10a; Philippians 4:13; Matthew 11:28)

Help them not to try stretching their days, rising early and staying up late to do the things they feel they need to do— for You grant sleep to those You love. (Psalm 127:2)

May they pause throughout the day, asking You to order their steps, being confident that You will.

In Jesus' name, amen.

For Vocation in Daily Work

Almighty God our heavenly Father, who declarest thy glory and showest forth thy handiwork in the heavens and in the earth: Deliver us, we beseech thee, in our various occupations from the service of self alone, that we may do the work which thou givest us to do in truth and beauty and for the common good; for the sake of him who came among us as one that serveth, thy Son Jesus Christ our Lord, who liveth and reigneth with thee and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Workday Prayer

Lord Jesus, as I enter this workplace,
I bring Your presence with me.
I speak Your peace, Your grace, and Your perfect order into the atmosphere of this office.
I acknowledge Your Lordship over all that will be spoken, thought, decided and accomplished within these walls.

Lord Jesus, I thank You for the gifts You have deposited in me.
I do not take them lightly, but commit to using them responsibly and well.
Give me a fresh supply of truth and beauty on which to draw as I do my job.

Anoint my creativity, my ideas, my energy so that even my smallest task may bring You honor.
Lord, when I am confused, guide me. When I am weary, energize me.
Lord, when I am burned out, infuse me with the light of Your Holy Spirit.

May the work that I do and the way I do it bring hope, life, and courage to all that I come in contact with today.
And, oh Lord, even in this day's most stressful moment, may I rest in You.
In the name of Jesus my savior I pray.
Amen.

Prayer for Creative Work

O most Glorious and Blessed God, I present myself and this work into Your hands. Do with it as You will. Guide my thoughts. Hold my hands, that You alone are writing (painting, carving) through me, producing whatever You wish me to say. And now, O my Beloved and my Joy, I prostrate myself into Your most loving embrace in thanks that You give me talent, inspiration, discipline to do Your work. Amen. So be it.
