Power in Prayer
Saturday, 12 January 2008
Topic: Military Prayer for the Military Wife Dear God, I am proud to be wed to one who defends freedom and peace. My challenges are many and I pray for your love and guidance to meet them. Special to me are the symbols representing my religion, country, community, and home. I pray for the wisdom and grace to be true to their meanings. You are the symbol of my religious beliefs and the source of my strength. Because my life is full of change, I cherish the solid and constant spiritual foundation that you provide. Help me Lord, to be an example of your teachings. My national flag represents freedom. Let me never forget, or take for granted, the hope it shows to the world. Bless those who have made sacrifices for freedom. Please grant us your continued blessings, increased strength and infinite guidance, as we live to your honor and glory. Amen. - Unknown Appropriate for many faiths

My Help Cometh From HaShem
Topic: Protection My Help Cometh From HaShem I will lift up mine eyes unto the mountains: from whence shall my help come? My help cometh from HaShem, who made heaven and earth. He will not suffer thy foot to be moved; He that keepeth thee will not slumber. Behold, He that keepeth Israel doth neither slumber nor sleep. HaShem is thy keeper; HaShem is thy shade upon thy right hand. The sun shall not smite thee by day, nor the moon by night. HaShem shall keep thee from all evil; He shall keep thy soul. HaShem shall guard thy going out and thy coming in, from this time forth and for ever. - Psalms 121: 1-8 Jewish

Prayer on Moving to Senior Housing
Topic: Seniors Prayer on Moving to Senior Housing Well, Lord, the day has come. In many ways I dreaded leaving my home, my security. And now I have to give up some of my privacy and life with other old people. Help me even now to accept these people as I find them--boring at times, stimulating, and excessively talkative. Help me remember that all these strange people are loved by you. Deliver me from being snappy at meals with people who are cranky -- they may be in pain. If someone wants to confide a problem, help me listen. And may I reach out to those when I feel the urge to strike out. As I leave my home, give me a sense of call, even as you called old Abraham and Sarah when they left their home on a new journey of faith. If I can love my neighbor there, then I have a mission. Amen. Christian

Prayer for a Better World
Topic: World Prayer for a Better World O God, the source of creation, ever-present in the changes of this world, be present with your people who cry to you for help. Empower us with vision and strength to enable the peoples of this earth to acquire the skills and resources necessary to a growing world. Enable those from countries with plenty to share their lives, funds, and resources with those in need. Embolden those with vision to proclaim new ways of creating communities of responsibility. Engage us in learning from one another and in valuing the unique gifts that you have given to the people of every land. Bless your people, O God, who cry to you. Amen. - Vienna Cobb Anderson Appropriate for many faiths

Prayer for Our Enemies
Topic: Peace Prayer for Our Enemies We pray to you, O God, the lover of all, for those whom we have named our enemies. Deliver us from the hardness of heart that keeps us locked in confrontation. Deliver us from the hatred that binds us in old ways. Grant unto all people the blessing of your love. And grant unto us such transformation of our lives that we may make peace with our enemies, and that together we might make this world a safer place for all. Amen. - Vienna Cobb Anderson Appropriate for many faiths

Prayer for Epiphany
Topic: Epiphany Prayer for Epiphany Dear Jesus, as You led the Three Kings to You by the light of a star, please draw us ever closer to You by the light of Faith. Help us to desire You as ardently as they did. Give us the grace to overcome all the obstacles that keep us far from You. May we, like them, have something to give You when we appear before You. Amen Christian

A Prayer for Husbands and Wives
Topic: Marriage A Prayer for Husbands and Wives Husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. After all, no one ever hated his own body, but he feeds and cares for it. For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh. - Ephesians 5:25-33 Christian, Protestant

For New Beginnings
Topic: Gratitude/Thanks For New Beginnings O God, We thank you for this earth, our home; for the wide sky and the blessed sun, for the ocean and streams, for the towering hills and the whispering wind, for the trees and green grass. We thank you for our senses by which we hear the songs of birds, and see the splendor of fields of golden wheat, and taste autumn's fruit, rejoice in the feel of snow, and smell the breath of spring flowers. Grant us a heart opened wide to all this beauty; and save us from being so blind that we pass unseeing when even the common thorn bush is aflame with your glory. For each new dawn is filled with infinite possibilities for new beginnings and new discoveries. Life is constantly changing and renewing itself. In this new day of new beginnings with God, all things are possible. We are restored and renewed in a joyous awakening to the wonder that our lives are and, yet, can be. Amen. --Source: Appleseeds.org
