Prayer for Dreamers
Topic: Faith
Prayer for Dreamers
We pray for the dreamers of this life, O God, for those persons who imagine new possibilities, who long for what others cannot perceive, who spin dreams of wonder and majesty in their minds. Defend them from ridicule and harsh criticism, from self-doubt and lack of faith in their dreams, and from abandonment of this call to make things new. Grant that from their dreams may come forth blessings for humankind to enrich the quality of life and the wonderment of us all. Amen. - Vienna Cobb Anderson Appropriate for many faiths source: Adapted from "Prayers of Our Hearts" © 1991 Vienna Cobb Anderson. Reprinted with the permission of the author.

To Worship in Spirit and Truth
Topic: Sabbath
To Worship in Spirit and Truth
Father, I'm praying that (name one or more) and others in my circle of family and friends will worship You in spirit and in truth...
May they learn to worship You in spirit, for You are spirit, and You have created us in Your image with spirit, soul, and body. May they worship You by the Spirit of God. (John 4:24; Genesis 1:26a, 27a; 1 Thessalonians 5:23; Philippians 3:3a)
May they never have an idol in their lives—anyone or anything more important to them than You. May their worship be pleasing to You, and even in the midst of disappointment or great sorrow, may they turn to You in worship. May they surrender themselves to You completely as living sacrifices— for that in itself is a spiritual act of worship. (Ezekiel 14:3; Romans 12:1; 2 Samuel 12:19–20)
Help them worship You in spirit and in truth—the truth of Who You are as You have revealed Yourself to be in the Scriptures—not the God they want You to be or imagine You are. May they worship You in the truth of how You have revealed Yourself through their personal relationship with You. ( John 4:23; Exodus 3:14; John 4:22; 17:3)
May their worship come from the heart. In Jesus' name, amen. - Jim & Kaye Johns Perfect for a Sunday prayer... source: "Prayers for the Moment: One-Minute Scripture Prayers" Copyright September 2006. Reprinted with permission of B&H Publishing Group

Prayer for the Start of Day

Prayer for the Start of Day
This is another day, O Lord. I know not what it will bring forth, but make me ready, Lord, for whatever it may be. If I am to stand up, help me to stand bravely. If I am to sit still, help me to sit quietly. If I am to lie low, help me to do it patiently. And if I am to do nothing, let me do it gallantly. Make these words more than words, and give me the Spirit of Jesus. Amen. Christian source: Book of Common Prayer 1979

Prayer of Thanksgiving
O give thanks unto the Lord; for he is good: because his mercy endureth for ever.
Let Israel now say, that his mercy endureth for ever.
Let the house of Aaron now say, that his mercy endureth for ever.
Let them now that fear the Lord say, that his mercy endureth for ever.
I called upon the Lord in distress: the Lord answered me, and set me in a large place. - Psalms 118: 1-5 Christian source: The Bible (King James Version); read a Jewish translation

God Is Our Refuge
Topic: Protection
God Is Our Refuge
God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.
Therefore will we not fear, though the earth do change, and though the mountains be moved into the heart of the seas;
Though the waters thereof roar and foam, though the mountains shake at the swelling thereof. Selah
There is a river, the streams whereof make glad the city of God, the holiest dwelling-place of the Most High.
God is in the midst of her, she shall not be moved; God shall help her, at the approach of morning.
Nations were in tumult, kingdoms were moved; He uttered His voice, the earth melted.
HaShem of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our high tower. Selah
Come, behold the works of HaShem, who hath made desolations in the earth.
He maketh wars to cease unto the end of the earth; He breaketh the bow, and cutteth the spear in sunder; He burneth the chariots in the fire.
'Let be, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.'

Prayer for Safety
Topic: Protection
Prayer for Safety
We are afraid to walk the streets. We are afraid to go outside. We are afraid of the young men with guns in their hands, drugs in their blood, and death a breath away. O God, hear our prayer for families, neighbors, and friends. Deliver us from this violence, from danger and death. Give us the courage to face each day and to walk the streets in safety once again. Amen.

Empower Their Words
Topic: Missionaries
Empower Their Words
Father, I'm praying for these (name them) who are serving in ministries or are on mission for You...
For those who travel or live abroad, supply translators for them as needed, those who know the language so well they're able to communicate clearly. Enable those who are trying to learn the language to quickly become fluent. May they all speak Your truth boldly to those who will listen, and help those who hear to understand it with their hearts. Let there be no misunderstanding. (Acts 4:29, 31; 28:27b; 2:4–6)
Wherever they are, help them to share the gospel not just with words but with the power and assurance of the Holy Spirit and with deep conviction. May Your Word be recognized not as the word of men but as it really is—the Word of God. May those to whom they witness accept it as Your truth, Your message to them, and use it to change their lives, for Your Word will accomplish its purpose. (1 Thessalonians 1:5; 2:13; Isaiah 55:11)
Whenever they have the opportunity to talk to someone, give them Your words to share. Help them speak the simple truth of the gospel, helping them not to trust their own words but in the Spirit who speaks through them, especially if they encounter people who want to resist or contradict what they're trying to say. (Ephesians 6:19; Matthew 10:19b–20; Luke 21:15)
In Jesus' name, amen.

Prayer for Tisha B'av
Thou, O HaShem, art enthroned for ever, Thy throne is from generation to generation.
Wherefore dost Thou forget us for ever, and forsake us so long time?
Turn Thou us unto Thee, O HaShem, and we shall be turned; renew our days as of old.
Thou canst not have utterly rejected us, and be exceeding wroth against us! - Lamentations 5: 19-22 Jewish source: Tanakh (Jewish Publication Society, 1917)

As I Go From Health to Illness
As I go from health to illness, Lord, I am fearful that I will not be able to withstand the journey. Help me to trust in you completely, and be my support and strength as I let go of all denial and accept my situation so that I can do something positive about it. - Maureen Pratt Appropriate for many faiths source: Copyright (c) 2005 by Maureen Pratt. Save the Afflicted
We beseech thee, Master, to be our helper and protector. Save the afflicted among us; have mercy on the lowly; raise up the fallen; appear to the needy; heal the ungodly; restore the wanderers of thy people; feed the hungry; ransom our prisoners; raise up the sick; comfort the faint-hearted. - Clement of Rome (1st Century) Christian
